I'm here for now. Don't know what, if anything, I will use dteamwidth for, post tumblrpurge. There are a few modern conveniences dreamwidth just does not have, that will make coming back here frustrating at least; and at the most, an absolute deal breaker.

One: no searchable tags. Sitewide content search is available, but results don't give you the full post, only a quote. Makes finding the content you're looking for challenging, and it feel s strangely isolating, knowing you won't be able to reach other fans with a relevantly-tagged post.

Two, and this may be most important for me personally: no like, kudos, heart, or upvote button. Nothing for non-content-creators to interact with to show appreciation, apart from leaving a vapid "liked this" comment that just junks up the comment section and everyone finds tedious to both read and reply to (thanks glad you liked it!) People who aren't writers or artists want to be a part of fandom, too; but I feel like if you aren't producing or ostentatiously falling all over creators with praise, there's no place for you on the old LJ model. Tumblr has stoked a need in me for curation and dteamwidth does not provide.

Third: it's ugly and broken on mobile. Right now I can't even see what I'm typing; I have run into the form boxes and it's a fucking mess. Like I need to go back a couple sentences adds idit my post rn bit I can't even SEE it, let alone edit it. (ETA: I can edit the post after initially posting it, but what a headache!)

Yeah, it's a lot more emphasis on preserving people's privacy, at the cost of requiring that you use interests or comms to actively curate, well, communities of common interest.

FWIW, as someone who never left (and who in the past has participated in fandom events hosted on LJ/DW), I've never thought "love this!"-type comments vapid or tedious or undesirable! I've known a couple of published authors to do things like declare Comments Amnesty -- explicitly stating they won't reply to the comments in a particular post due to volume -- and I bet you could just as well adopt that as a blanket journal policy if you yourself dislike replying to such things :)

My main beef (apart from the loss of functionality on mobile) is just that the culture here is so different. I'd forgotten how stifling the formality could be. As much as I complained about tumblr, one thing I loved was that the old-school gatekeeping culture had no foothold there. It was a breath of fresh air and freedom, and I don't think I could ever really go back to the old text-focused formats (yes, I'm a fanzine/usenet/mailing lists/LJ veteran as well.) I'm using it to keep track of some people in the interim, but when fandom has found its next big platform, I am gone.
